Just kidding, of course

Seriously, though – it would be a mess if I spoke danish, Gamage whatever-that-language-is, some spoke german, dutch, chinese ru … you get the picture.
Americans invented the first successful modern computers. Americans (GE Computer Division) created the first "user friendly" programming language, "BASIC". Americans "put together" the framework and beginnings for the Internet. View the "Source" language of most HTML web pages and you will find they are written in American. I've programmed computers since 1970 (initially an IBM 360-30) in FORTRAN, COBOL, BASIC, RPG, BAL, PASCAL and "machine language". Any Englishman (or even someone as loosely related to them as "Walrus") would be enraged by your statement. I hope you have a place to hideout until their anger dissipates (maybe "gamage" will loan you his chair at the "boss'" place).

True Artemis - however one must be a little nice to such as Danish Bacon because, unfortunately it is the English speaking nations of the World who have invented most useful things in life - with this in mind we do not have time to learn every minority language in the world to please the speakers of these tongues (especially when the English Language has absorbed the useful parts of his language, during one or another of their viking like invasions - we came, we saw, we coverted, we stole, and slunk away in the night!

Artemis it seems has a thin skin. Also hails from the place of my father. I also claim lineage to the scots pig-farmers - "my name is of kings" to quote kin.

My webname has nothing to do with India or near countries. It is a "tok-pisin" word from PNG meaning "white ghost" or "spirit being" or something similar.

So brother Arty, insult me and insult yourself. As in Hokien, I also use a name that sounds like "chup chen" which means 'son of 10000'.

Ah, Walrus, I thought the English school system taught the "classics" back in the days when you attended. Artemis is a Greek goddess, daughter of Leto and Zeus (in one of his many "naughty" moments) and twin sister of Apollo. She is the goddess of the hunt, wild animals and is often depicted with the crescent of the moon above her forehead. The Romans equated her with Diana and from this the moon and tides. Hence her present day association with the seas and oceans. Also the name of my first steamboat!

Next you'll tell me that it was americans who invented democracy and that it was Al Gore who invented the internet. Or, for that matter, that Jonathan Ive is american. I guess that all things "historic" begins and ends with computers. Of course, it has to, when living in a country where one's "father" founded it ;-)

Did you know that the woman who first slowed down light, then actually arrested light, was danish, even though she worked for an american firm? Anja Andersen is her name. And you guys think that rocket science is something to brag about?

Wow, you have long legs – How high can you jump?

On another note, were you one of the "folks" who used the terms "freedom fries"?

(Oh, man, I foresee this will end in a proper blood bath …)

To this date I have never met a programmer who was able to spell if his life depended on it. Now, when saying this, I'm willing to bet that some programmer will claim that he is indeed able to spell, or someone who's an oxford-lad will claim to be a programmer.

Sheesh, I need som sleep.

If you leave out a few words, you will have Artemis' recapitulation.

Here's a serious proposal. Instead of all the mud slinging, can we now bring this thread to an end?

I figure that is what we're doing, Trev. By everyone going off topic, it will eventually be closed. Although not very nice of us, that seems to be the direction this is going.
