I like the nuclear eel submarine (train hauler), the Roller-Boat, and of course the flying boats (wing in ground effect).

Errrr no Kach22i - I think you'll find this is one of the earlier designs for the Australian built Collins Submarine - they are still trying to get the Mark II version to sink.....

Hello cach22i,

Great fun retro site which I found strangely thought provoking, so thanks for that.

Paul.

The Flettner rotor ship was and is a fairly good way to get around (although dead upwind could be a bit painful) I can't remember what the efficiency was like, but they DID make an Atlantic crossing in 1930-something
Cousteau "re-invented" the idea with "Alcyone", using what he called TurboSails.

A link from that link:

The Flettner rotor is the first application to the practical affairs of a scientific law, discovered by Magnus seventy-five years ago and neglected ever since, except as baseball pitchers employed the principle unconsciously to give a curve to the ball. This principle is simply that a rotating sphere or cylinder in the wind receives a pressure that shoves it sidewise as well as in the direction of the wind.
Glad you all liked the site.
