Australia Day 26th of January tomorrow is Australia Day Happy Aussie day to all my fellow Aussie mates. Have a good one and sink a tinny or two. I'm a bit slower than most blokes, so I've started now. And remember, the only way to prevent a hangover is to keep drinking. Poida

Cheers Poida. I'll be working my ass off painting (still prepping) a house we are about to move into, there is sure to be beer though. Like you I have already started. Sippin on a few James Squire Golden and Amber Ales. Yum. BTW. Tim Flannery as Australian of the year. Congratulations. I like the guy, I like and agree with most of his ideas, and he is a dedicated and talented environmentalist and writer. Did and of the Aussies see him giving his speech next to a ridiculously awkward John Howard (with Tim's trophy still in hand) as Tim described Australians as 'the worst per capita greenhouse gas polluters in the world' and promised that he would be consistently critical of Howards and any governments stalling and ovoidance at dealing with climate change? The looks on Howards face... Oh Lordy simply priceless.

Aus day Today i celebrate with all those who have the good fortune to reside in Aus yes i was born and bred here of free english decent and prior to that the name came from the Flemish weavers who came to the English mid lands But it is not celebrations across the nation for this day marks the decline of our indigenious Aus brothers - something i had little to do with but benifit from Like most fellows on this forum i know where my next feed (and beer) is coming from - many on this planet do not and that does not sit well with me A fellow by the nqme of Gerrard Diamound has writen a book about the priviliage of birth location which is why we know where the next feed comes from In considering our own good fortune we would do well to consider those who are not as well off happy boating lyle

Well said Lyle. I couldn't agree more. My feelings about Indiginous Australia are such that there is not much I can say without going against Jeff's wishes for no politics. so I'll skip that part and go to something positive. In two weeks I have the honour and the privavlege to go up and stay with the Yorta Yorta people for a week on their traditional lands on the murray river. It is a special subject I am doing at the end of my degree and I can't wait. P.S. Lyle, Did you mean Jared Diamond, if so he is one of my favourite authors. Hans.

Getting around and about all over the place today (Have I mentioned "I" had to work?) anyway,, I was pleased to see quite a number of cars getting about flying little Aussie flags out their windows and homes with flags on the front fence. Mychael

Great Idea Poida but I'm probably too old and crotchity for that (and a bloody POM too) missed my chance back in 87 when I should have jumped ship in Freemantle (even the Customs guy suggested it) bloody fool that I didn't just got rid of the first wife and had to run (she'd tried knifing me for slapping her boyfriend around - succeeded to! just not very good with a knife is all - good things ribs!) So I legged it to Newcastle (yours not ours) and joined a bulker - must've been off my rocker I came back home and married again - twice! Just addicted to wedding cake is my story!

Sorry if I have missed it, what are you celebrating on Australia Day? Is it the day you got independent (or do you still have the Queen?).
