| Hi, read again my post, I said "Mac & linux were ROBUST", being UNIX like in their structure.... I use AMD processors and Linux Mint and have a 32 channel audio console as well as a "drum machine" - none of which I know how to use but when I play, they are quite intuitive... "Ardour" digital audio work station using JACK audio connection kit & MIDI support etc <http://ardour.org/> "Hydrogen" drum sequencer Windows is the opposite... (fragile and full of coding holes)

| I hear ya... Why I said linux has merit... mac vs windows and musicians sort of reminds me of this big kuffufle between guitarists back in the day about nails or no nails to pick the strings (people died in this incident). I like my psp over an ipod I like my nokia over the iphone and I like commodore 64 over mac |

| You seem more "with-it" electronically than I  my nokia phone (is only a phone) is about 8 years old ???... I hate the modern notebooks with their high gloss screens - good only for troglodytes and gamers in darkened rooms, - as in bright light the screen turns into a mirror... Just try to download your emails under a tree near that exclusive hotel with "free internet access for guests"...

| This trip represents a couple of missions for me, music is a huge part of my existence and I see this trip as a great opportunity to knuckle down on completing my Pièce de résistance, it has been a challenge to find suitable gear for the trip and this is what I have settled on for the music side of things... | Agreed, if only... Too many prima donnas and over sensitive princesses on guitar forums for me, they should spend half as much time on their instruments rather than having emo adhd moments online! I know my gear fairly well so I don't need to many reference points luckily. |

| You could always set up a sound studio in Solomon Islands or Vanuatu and emulate what CHM has done in PNG... Nice cash flow producing for local muso's and distributing in the Melanesian market (the old cassette tapes are still the go there...) http://www.chmsupersound.com/

| Hey Masalai, for once I need to be selfish with my music... If anything I will stop and play gigs along the way but my studio is off limits to anyones elses projects for the duration I am on the water. BTW, I am not a greedy or selfish person and this is so hard for me to do but it is the way it has to be on this trip. |

| No sweat, I was attempting to reach out with options that may offer cash-flow (an income) whilst you develop your creative juices and produce your own stuff for you almost seem to have a full sound studio already in your 'proposed kit'... and Luganville on Ille Santo, or Port Vila, on Efaete, VANUATU are relatively close, inspirational, romantic places with much history to inspire... Like Michener's cottage (the author of "South Pacific") (lat -15.454632 deg S and lon 167.215947 deg E) unique form of cosmopolitan French lifestyle and abundant romanticised tourists to offer stimulation, diversions and marketing opportunities... - arriving on regular cruise boats by the thousands... USA is about to implode as part of its contribution to the Global Economic Crisis... | I appreciate your input Masalai... Please don't be offended by my blunt style, everything you have said is sound advice! I would be more suited to sailing into Byron,Thailand or other tourist meccas and play the full moon parties and festivals. I am more known for my doof (psy trance and aussie hiphop) than I am for my guitar playing, I have neglected that side for far too long and it is time to work on the instrumental melodic metal album that has been on my mind for over a decade. The fame and money is not what music is about for me, a good friend of mine was a rock star in the eighties with 7 gold and platinum records (really) who coked up all his money and taught me young of the pitfalls, another, the whitlams wrote a number three hit about and watching him (and tex Perkins first guitarist Pete) smash themselves on the sex, drugs and rock and roll lifestyle in a share house when I was 17 was an eye opener I still remember today as if it were yesterday. I was playing a gig back in 99 (in front of 10000 people) when I slipped on water that a punter through on stage and broke my right hand (where it is all at with what I play) and for years I suffered and had to doof it more because of the injury. Surgery was only going to fix it "possibly" so I took to wearing an arthritic glove and using a grip master to build strength, only now can I say it doesn't bother me (the odd day but nothing like it was). It was a blessing in one way, it made me more determined and a far better player through perseverance. I am left handed but after the injury I had to learn to play right handed so it has been a hard road followed blindly with passion and the faith that music is my mission on this planet. |

| The important thing is to follow your dream and not be side tracked by chemicals, (introduced, or self generated during sexual attraction...), unless that is your permanent objective...

| my only dream is to be as free of the machine as I can be, yachts represent an opportunity for me to achieve this and my determination despite having sunk a tahiti ketch in the worst storm to hit in 120 yrs and having all the local toffs try salvage my boat while my clothes were still wet from being in the drink and the repairer trying to bend me over resulting in losing everything on it including it (uninsured cause I had it three weeks and had to find a wood person to survey cause it wasn't worth it to the glass heads that were available). I learnt a lot about the sailing community with that experience and I am being self reliant, I might not have the biggest boat, the most experience or one of many things I could write but I am real, what you see is what you get and I think I embrace the spirit of what it represents to me as truthfully as I can. I will do this and I will either complete the lap, sink the boat or die at sea... You only live once as I see it and it sure sounds more appealing than slaving away with a devil woman in my ear! |
