Jusy come home from work, completely sober and not thinking with a clear head at all.

Just bought some rum and ginger beer cans, should be thinking straight fairky soon.

Steel 8 Mercury 13.6 Mercury is 0.7 denser than steel, therefore the ball will float with .7 of it's volume out of the mercury.

The draft could be worked out by getting the area of the cross section of the sphere 0.786Msqr X .7 = 0.5499Msqr.

Working out the draft from an area of a segment of a circle???

PI's calculation of .559m indicates that the ball is floating with the centreline of the sphere below the mercury as I believe the centreline would be above it.

This is a guess initial draft of .470m

Now add the water, 1m it is now above the sphere 0.470M.

    Does it add bouyancy No!

Bouyancy is an upward force negligable in this case.

Does it add bouyancy by compressing the mercury, no! a liquid can not be compressed (on to my second can of rum and ginger beer starting to think clearer, nice drop) It will add pressure to the mercury by increasing the head by 1m of water.

    OK Pressure at base of sphere = 470mm of Mercury = 64Kpa + 1m of water = 10Kpa With a total of 74Kpa

    Top Pressure = 470mm of water = 4.7Kpa

Anyway I think we should talk about sex it's something we all understand.
There is TV advertising running at the moment that says, "Are you having trouble getting an ********," I going, "No, I have trouble finding someone to share it with."

    Love to all.

Have more rum, mate. This will have two benefits:
    a. You will realise the ball is definitely more than half submerged.
    b. Brewer's droop will take over, so you won't have anything to share...

    PI me buddy

How can I trust your logic after you say there will be two benefits A & B. Alphanumeretically speaking perhaps?

Sinking a Crowny now nice drop.

Danish Bagger your Princess belongs to us give her back!

I reckon the Danish language is so cool. I used to watch a programme here on TV called "Unit One" a police unit.

The langauge appeared to me to be so short.

Good morning in English was Morn in Danish.

Anyway one of the actors in it was in the latest "James Bond" movie. Playing a baddie.

Which has nothing to do with steel balls and mercury.

I'll explain my ranting to PI, ranting is when a person without brains is talking.

PI said, "this will have two benefits," two meaning numerals 1, 2,3 etc.
then said A & B which are letters.

Letters are known as the alphabet. Numbers are known as numerals.

Hence the term alphanumeretical. This is quite often used as a code, an alphanumeretical number, meaning the code contains letters and numbers.

A Crowny is an Australian Beer called a "Crown Lager"

    Enough of my ranting

Haha, Poida, aren't you a happy fella today! :)

Nope, you aren't getting her back. Vikings keep what the vikings grabbed.

It's true that in some parts of Denmark "Good Morning" is short. It's "Møjn", but that is regional language. Most people actually say "God morgen" - very similar to the english equivalent.

The name of the baddie in the new James Bond movie is "Mads Mikkelsen".

Which, as you say, have nothing to do with mercury and steel balls. Although ...

I do know what ranting and numerals means, Poida. Heck, I can even spell and pronounce antidisestablishmentarianism.

    The crowny-part I didn't know.

What tossed me was that when reading, the "line of thought" seem to skip, so to speak, and I couldn't make those leaps - propably because I'm not a native english speaker (different cultures in different languages and what have we).

At this ppoint, I would like to be able to make up a brain teaser, but I can't ... So, I guess, I'll just stop writi

I think you're up late, I guess. I have been awake all night, and by now it's 2 pm.

Speaking of viking vessels: We had a great discussion quite a while back about them going to windward.

Actually, I think I'll go for a nap. Take care.

    /sorry about this "off-topicness"'

Whew! glad I have been away for some time this is crazy! Danish don't know about your Princess but when are you taking your islands back? We've had enough of them, we gave 'em to you as a dowrie and you wouldn't take 'em (would this be the same princess? she didn't in the end apparantly (marry the guy)but as we conquered the jocks shortly afterwards it don't count!)

As for the barge thingy I wouldn't want to be under that viaduct with that barge rushing through, there would be water every were! And PI is you making some kind of reference to the size of the present British fleet - there's always two of 'em wouldn't be an escort group else! So your time is limited (unless of course your on a nuke which can really shift apparantly, but when I was chasing boats of course they were still real boats! (which idiot got rid of those "U" boats they were mustard! and that's from a skimmer!

Now were did Poida put the tinnies I could do with a few - my brain hurtz!

Jack, it was scandinavians, and the danish kingdom were quite large at that time. So, it was both (modern day) norwegians, danes and swedes. (and faroese, for that matter).

Roskilde, Lejre and so forth might ring a bell? That's in denmark, ad we have one of the largest viking museums over all.

Raping, plundering and pillaging go the Vikings.
Are us Aussies the only ones that still do that?

Besides nature, what else does Australia (and almost any western country) ****, plunder and pillage?

Anyhow, a little known fact is that it is likely that vikings didn't infact "****", but woed women instead. After all, it was clergymen that wrote those accounts, and vikings, unlike the clergymen took a bath at least once a week ... Yup, the "clean" scandinavians, lol.

Anyway, that's another discussion, another time.
