| Thank you for your note. We understand your interest in seeing a Memorial Day Google logo. If we were to commemorate this holiday, we'd want to express reverence; however, as Google's special logos tend to be lighthearted in nature, this would be a particularly challenging design. We wouldn't want to create a graphic that could be interpreted as disrespectful in any way. ... We really appreciate your feedback regarding the Google logo, and please be assured that we're actively pursuing ways in which we can acknowledge Memorial Day and other such occasions in the future. Regards, The Google Team This was the response to a letter crticizing Google for not acknowledging Memorial Day ......... in 2006. Hard to believe that in 2 years all those bright people haven't been able to find an appropriate logo to honor the day.

I found this AP story from a few years back: "To obtain the Chinese license, Google agreed to omit Web content that the country's government finds objectionable. Google will base its censorship decisons on guidance provided by Chinese government officials. Although China has loosened some of its controls in recent years, some topics, such as Taiwan's independence and 1989's Tiananmen Square massacre, remain forbidden subjects. Google officials characterized the censorship concessions in China as an excruciating decision for a company that adopted "don't be evil" as a motto. But management believes it's a worthwhile sacrifice. "We firmly believe, with our culture of innovation, Google can make meaningful and positive contributions to the already impressive pace of development in China," said Andrew McLaughlin, Google's senior policy counsel. ... Neither Google's e-mail nor blogging services will be offered in China because the company doesn't want to risk being ordered by the government to turn over anyone's personal information. The e-mail service, called Gmail, creates a huge database of users' messages and makes them instantly searchable. The blogging services contain a wide range of personal background. Yahoo came under fire last year after it provided the government with the e-mail account information of a Chinese journalist who was later convicted for violating state secrecy laws." http://www.breitbart.com/article.php...show_article=1 http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/4221538.stm Apparently it was Yahoo, not Google, which gave information that helped the Chinese government jail a dissident writer. Google, Yahoo, and MSN.com, however, all have agreed to government censorship. Profit before principles ... sucks, but not exactly something new. Thanks for calling attention to their ignoring Memorial Day, John. I hadn't noticed that. They are oh so sincerely trying to decide on an appropriate logo? They should take some advice from their new buddies, the Chinese: A wise man makes his own decisions, an ignorant man follows the public opinion. Traditional Chinese proverb Teddy Roosevelt put it well, but he's probably too strong for those wimps: In any moment of decision the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.

| Fellow Americans, I'm never coming back to this site. The American haters are thick as a foggy Gulf of Mexico night. I've gotta few foreign fucks who respond to my every thought with accusations of American genocide, empire building and other ********...rather unpleasant, untrue and unnecessary. If y'all ever find a better website with similar topics and intentions, please let me know. Regards, |

| I have been a member of this site for almost 7 years and try hard not to join these open discussion threads. I try to remember what brought me to this site in the first place. The need to get good boat building information. That said, I am an American combat veteran, (S.O.G. Vietnam '67, '68.). I do not believe that Google or any other business OWES me anything. I also believe that we (Americans) deserve much of the trash talk that we have been receiving. I am embarrassed by many things our administration has done during the past 12 years. I am a proud American and I want us to deserve any praise the global population wants to bestow upon us, but I want it to be deserved, I want us to work for it. I don't want it because our stick is bigger. Hopefully, we now have a leader that can walk and chew gum at the same time, and we can slowly begin to rebuild our reputation around the world. My fellow Americans, we can not demand something that has not been earned, no matter what our individual sacrifices might have been. Now lets get back to building boats, it's what we do to forget all this bull.

| juice, don't be such a pansy. this is an excellent website and i’m contemplating becoming a sponsor. and aside from a handful with what appear to be deep personal issues, most of the foreigners are quite intelligent and insightful. people are people where ever you go. besides, you’ll find far stronger anti-american sentiment on the streets of new york city than among the ranks of our most emboldened enemies. kaptin, this vet isn't about garnering the praise of anyone much less the world. and a chicago president that promises change and whose vp and first appointment top the food chain for status quo? the only thing i see coming is isolation, protectionism and taxes. stick with the boat threads. |

| Hey. I served in the US Army from 1987-1992 and if I didn't serve with distinction at least I served with pride. I don't feel that anyone anywhere "Owes" me a god-damned thing besides common courtesy. And I don't see hwo the USA will, or can, continue to exist unless we as citizens are able to take a full and frank assessment of our shortcomings and work to rectify them. I don't think most of the world wants to see America fall. I do think most other countries would just be happy if we quit throwing our weight around like it's 1949. The world's a different place now, and we US Citizens need to realize that.
