30 foot mcgruber 2012 survival sailboat

One thread a guy talked about a breakaway sail and keel. I was thinking of using a folding wing design, similar to the icon aircraft, and also a retractable keel.

List of ideas/materials to incorporate:

pontoons, since they have separate air chambers,
foamular.
steel framing
sheet metal from cars
mig welder
detachable pontoon cradle to absorb impacts
desalination system
car airbag systems
scuba gear
2.25 tons of spam "don't forget the brown sugar"

If the world is ending, how will a 30' boat help you? Wouldn't you need a 30' spacecraft?

Ok, maybe I shouldn't use the word crazy. Noah is the original yachtsman. So you expect planet x to disturb the Earth enough to cause the oceans to flood the land, but not to cause tsunamis that will kill you and mangle your craft?

What do you do when the spam runs out?

How will you survive without vitamins and minerals (aside from all the sodium in your spam) ?

I still say your boat won't save you. If the earth is ending, you need to get to work on a space ship and crack open books about other planets to see if you can find a way to survive.

Firstly, your wife is right. You also need a hammer. Noah didn't just take a whole load of animals, he also took his wife sailing. I doubt he was a wise man.

It's definitley an interesting problem to design a boat around. I've heard of unsinkable boats surviving hurricanes, but one to withstand a tsunami would require a design to deflect debris or absorb impacts, also would have to use some nascar technology. Would be a crazy ride, until you die, or can use it for an offshore condo if nothing happens.

So, you have heard about unsinkable boats? We have not. In fact they don´t exist. But one does not need them anyway. I survided storms of 130 miles per hour on sinkable boats.

A Tsunami can be easily survived (you will not even notice it), in a canoe! You just have to be far enough from shore.

Oil rigs have those big droppable fiberglass survivor lifeboats that look like sausage UFOs and they hold 50 or more guys. They're designed to be pretty bashed around and are roomy for lots of spam. There have been some interesting Niagara Falls barrels out of steel ridden on a wild ride and maybe that would scale up.

Not sure if you know but Etap make very good unsinkable boats, ( ive sailed in 2 of them) and they are good safe boats and id be keen to sail one again.
