BAKEWELL-WHITE YACHT DESIGN

The work of Bakewell-White Yacht Design is far reaching from sleek racing and cruising sailboats to luxury motoryachts to a fleet of high speed RIBS.   We have chosen to feature but one of their designs here because we believe it is important to give our visitors a feel for the expert craftsmanship and artistry involved in their design process, from sketches to 3d models to tank testing to analysis.

SELWAY FISHER

The designs of Selway Fisher are unique and wonderful, showing a variety of regional and historic influences and perfecting both a sophisticated subtlety and a strong wholeness of purpose and character. In a world of increasing all-in-one universality, it is refreshing and inspiring and liberating to see these beautiful boats which rather than trying to capture the whole game in a new form are instead each skillfully designed pieces with a unique honesty and their own beautifully developed identity.  If you have not already spent some time on the Selway Fisher web site, it is well worth a visit.

BERRET-RACOUPEAU

The designs of Berret-Racoupeau exemplify strength though simplicity and a subtle grace.  Throughout their large yet cohesive body of work, their designs are clean, simple, and balanced,  minimalist in such a way as to be perfect.  Not a detail can be taken away nor a detail can be added; their designs are cleanly honed to a state of perfection.

JAGUAR MARINE

Jack Clark begain racing in 1984 and had a great first year, but soon decided that he wanted to race a boat of his own design. In 1985, he did just this, with a 35' wooden Jaguar tunnel hull.  The design was successful, but the next step was to find a construction method which was lighter and stronger.  During 1986 and 87, Clark invented and refined his cored fiberglass construction techniques, leading to several winning boats including Thriller and Special Edition which set a open class speed record of 109.45 mph in 1988.  Jaguar Marine is now building three beautiful high-performance models including a 35' and a 50' cat and a new 50' v-hull.  All three models feature lines which are clean and purposeful, powerful and elegant.

RUNNINGTIDE YACHTS, LTD

Revisiting a Mast-Aft Sailing Rig:
A fascinating article from Brian Eiland detailing his development of a sailing rig which discards the "inefficient mainsail, and replaces it with two clean leading-edge headsails, acting in a parallel, harmonious fashion" with a mizzen sail creatively added and the mast stepped aft in the cockpit area and canted forward 10 degrees.
